Description

SodaStream CO2 Filling Adaptor.

Unlike our cheaper SodaStream cylinder adapters, this adapter has the added advantage of a side thumb screw that lets you depress the pin in the middle of the adapter. This pin adjustment makes the SodaStream cylinder adapter significantly easier to use.

Normal SodaStream adapters require an Allen key to adjust the pin height, and depending on how worn out your seal is, you may need to adjust this pin periodically. Conventional cheaper SodaStream adapters also tend to leak gas every time you connect and disconnect them from your regulator or the adapter itself. This new SodaStream adapter design is significantly better, with a handy thumb screw on the side of the unit that lets you eliminate cumbersome adjustments and turn the gas flow on and off.

This adapter is used if you have a SodaStream Cylinder and wish to use a conventional Type 30 Regulator with it, perhaps for BBQ or picnic, and you don't want to carry your 6kg or 2.6kg Gas Cylinder this is the adapter that will enable you to make a handy portable system.

Required Equipment:
  • A large bulk CO2 tank (e.g., 5 lb, 10 lb, or 20 lb) filled with food-grade CO2.
  • A specialised SodaStream refill adapter with a bleed valve (ensure it matches your cylinder style: Blue for classic screw-in or Pink for Quick Connect).
  • A digital kitchen scale to weigh the gas.
  • Safety gear, including heavy gloves and safety glasses.
  • An adjustable wrench.

Filling Steps:

1. Freeze the Empty Cylinder
  • Put your empty SodaStream cylinder in the freezer for at least 2 to 4 hours (or overnight).
  • Why: Liquid CO2 will only transfer smoothly if the destination tank is significantly colder than the donor tank. A warm cylinder causes the liquid to instantly flash into gas, building back-pressure and halting the transfer prematurely.
2. Weigh and Record
  • Weigh your frozen, empty SodaStream cylinder on your kitchen scale.
  • Note down this weight (the Tare Weight).
  • A standard SodaStream cylinder holds exactly 400 grams of CO2. Your target full weight is exactly: Tare Weight + 400g.
3. Connect the Adapter
  • Thread the large end of the refill adapter onto your main CO2 tank valve and tighten it securely with a wrench.
  • Ensure the bleed valve on the adapter is fully closed.
  • Screw or clip your frozen SodaStream cylinder into the other side of the adapter.
4. Position the Donor Tank
  • Without a siphon/dip tube: If your large CO2 tank stands upright normally, you must invert (flip upside down) the entire setup. Liquid CO2 settles at the bottom of the tank, and you need to pour liquid, not gas, into the smaller bottle.
  • With a siphon/dip tube: If your bulk tank was manufactured with an internal siphon tube, keep the large tank upright.
5. Fill Very Slowly
  • Slowly crack open the main valve of the large CO2 bottle.
  • Open it just a tiny fraction until you hear a faint hissing sound. Do not open it quickly.
  • Crucial note: Newer SodaStream cylinders feature an internal anti-refill protection valve. Opening the main tank valve too fast or too wide creates a sudden pressure spike that will instantly trip the safety valve and lock you out from filling.
  • Let the gas flow until the hissing completely stops, which typically takes 1 to 2 minutes.
6. Close and Bleed the Pressure
  • Fully close the main valve on your large CO2 tank.
  • Slowly open the small bleed valve on your adapter. A short burst of trapped, high-pressure gas will escape.
  • Warning: Do not attempt to unscrew the SodaStream bottle before bleeding the line, or the high pressure could damage the threads or cause an injury.
7. Verify the Weight
  • Remove the refilled cylinder and place it back on your digital scale.
  • Check that it matches your target weight. Never overfill past the 400g limit. If it is overfilled, depress the tiny pin/valve at the top of the cylinder with a blunt tool while outdoors to safely bleed off the excess weight.
7. Verify the Weight
  • Remove the refilled cylinder and place it back on your digital scale.
  • Check that it matches your target weight. Never overfill past the 400g limit. If it is overfilled, depress the tiny pin/valve at the top of the cylinder with a blunt tool while outdoors to safely bleed off the excess weight
