Best Styles for Naked Oats: These are incredible additions to Nut Brown Ales, English Bitters, Porters, and Cream Stouts where a touch of nutty, caramel complexity pairs beautifully with the malt profile.
The Flavor and Texture Impact.
Because they are a type of crystal/caramel malt, they change the beer differently than flaked oats.
- Flavour Profile: Instead of just a neutral "oatmeal" taste, they impart a distinct sweet, sun-baked, berry-nut flavor and light caramel sweetness.
- Colour: They add a gorgeous, deep golden hue to the wort.
- Mouthfeel: You still get that signature creamy, satiny texture and incredible head retention that oats are famous for.
How to Use an Infusion Pack.
- Heat Water: Bring 2 to 3 litres of water to roughly 65°C–70°C. Turn off the heat source.
- Steep: Put the naked oats pack (enclosed in its muslin cloth/grain bag) into the hot water.
- Rest: Cover the pot with a lid and let it steep for 30 minutes to extract all those rich, nutty sugars and proteins.
- Rinse and Pour: Lift the bag out and let it drain into the pot (give it a gentle squeeze to catch the rich liquid).
- Combine: Pour this golden, sweet liquid directly into your brew pot or fermenter as the base liquid for your main malt extract.
